Dr. Wivine Blekic

Post-Doc

I obtained my PhD in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Mons (Belgium), where I intensely explored the executive processes underpinning attentional control after psychological trauma. In parallel, I specialize in victimology and psychotraumatology at the University of Brussels, which allowed me to anchor my research in clinically pertinent questions for PTSD treatment. I have dedicated my research to understanding the nuances of post-traumatic stress reactions. Specifically, I crafted unique tasks, combined with state-of-the-art techniques like eye-tracking and electro-encephalography, to identify critical cognitive processes that influence stress responses.

Following this PhD, I joined Dr. Schultebraucks’ team as a postdoctoral fellow first at Columbia University (Emergency Medicine Department) and now at NYU Grossman School of Medicine (Psychiatry Department). This allowed me to be able to apply advanced computational methods into my research, further embracing the complexity of stress reactions. Specifically, I have been mainly designing prognostic models for early PTSD risk prediction and suicide risk. This line of work already led to several publications in reputed journals such as Molecular Psychiatry or Journal of Psychiatry Research, further reinforcing my expertise in the domain.

Throughout my career, I was able to secure several grants, underlining the trust institutions place in my research capabilities. Notably, I have received national and international funding from organizations like the Belgian-American Educational Foundation, Complexys Institute, Cn2R, and the Belgian and French National Health Institute.
