Victoria Mueller

PhD student

Victoria Mueller joined the lab in May 2023 to conduct research for her master’s thesis in Biomedical Engineering, a proof-of-concept study on machine learning-based detection of acute stress in a healthy population using video-based digital biomarkers, including remote photoplethysmography for digital heart rate monitoring. As part of her research, she developed advanced machine learning pipelines to extract and analyze digital biomarkers from video recordings—such as facial expressions, voice prosody, and body movements—to explore their associations with clinical disorders.

Currently, Victoria is a PhD student in Biomedical Engineering at the Tandon School of Engineering, specializing in machine learning and biopsychological signal processing. She focuses on the potential of digital biomarkers for mental health monitoring and early intervention. For her thesis, she investigates the use of digital biomarkers alongside Large Language Models to predict the severity of PTSD symptoms in patients who experienced a traumatic event.
