Postdoctoral Fellow (full-time)
Job Title:
Postdoctoral fellow (full-time)
Job Description:
We are hiring a postdoctoral fellow (starting date as soon as possible) to work in the interdisciplinary and cutting-edge Digital Health and Computational Psychiatry Program of Dr. Schultebraucks. The postdoctoral fellow will have the exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge clinical research on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), stress-related disorders, digital phenotyping, and computational psychiatry, and will receive close mentorship and support to continue developing their own professional career. The Digital Health and Computational Medicine Program is led by Dr. Schultebraucks, who is a leader in the field of computational psychiatry in the area of PTSD research and other stress-related disorders. We are a growing interdisciplinary team working at the intersection of stress research, psychiatry, biomedical engineering, biostatistics, and emergency medicine. The lab has multiple ongoing studies, including NIH-funded studies on examining digital biomarkers to predict PTSD in trauma survivors, or for instance, burnout, stress pathologies, and cognitive functioning in emergency medicine clinicians, and whether these digital biomarkers are related to physiological markers of chronic stress.
Applications must have a PhD in psychology or fields related to stress research, biostatistics, data science, and related fields. Competitive applications will have prior experience in relevant clinical research, biostatistics, or computer science, and demonstrated interest in this line of research as exemplified by academic presentations and/or peer-reviewed publications. Competitive applications will have substantial knowledge about using R and/or Python and prior experience or high interest in working with advanced statistical approaches, in particular, using computational approaches for facial emotion recognition, Natural Language Processing, and/or machine learning to identify risk factors of stress-related disorders. A strong interest in research methodology and Open Science will be highly advantageous.
The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for working on all aspects and phases of performing research in the field of stress-related disorders, in particular, performing systematic literature searches and extracting data from the literature for the critical appraisal of what is known, and to generate novel ideas and research questions to develop her/his own research projects. In addition, the postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for contributing to the ongoing and future projects of the research group by supporting literature searches and analyses, as well as contributing to the statistical analysis of collected data and the dissemination of results.
Duties will comprise cleaning data, preprocessing and analyzing the data under the supervision of Dr. Schultebraucks, and preparing figures, tables, summary results, and text for the dissemination of the results, writing and revising manuscripts that will be published in peer-reviewed journals, and supporting all steps required for completing the peer-review process, such as re-formatting a manuscript according to specific journal policies. The post-doctoral fellow will be expected to actively participate in weekly lab meetings (including “journal clubs” and “idea meetings”) and to report on her/his work and projects (i.e., status, progress, open questions, and tasks) in weekly meetings with Dr. Schultebraucks.
Interested applications should email Dr. Schultebraucks with their cover letter and curriculum vitae at Katharina.Schultebraucks@nyulangone.org. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis.
